Ebony is a veneer from Southeast Asia noted for its hardness and spectacular dark patterns. Most flat cut and quartered logs have a striped appearance with contrasting black and reddish to yellow accent colors. Quartered logs are usually small with limited sequences. Large marbled flat cut logs are occasionally available. Totally black African ebony is very rare. High quality ebony logs are very expensive.
